Are you ready for September? Ready or not, here we go! School has begun for the younger ones, and our own Dharma School starts September 10. The Dharma School staff has already met to plan for the year. Not only are they looking for ways to share the Dharma with the children, they are also looking for ways for the children to share the Dharma with the rest of us. You won't have to look for them, because they'll be everywhere!!
The Buddha encompasses each of us...whether we recognize it or not...whether we accept it or not. The Dharma reveals this truth to us...in an endless number of ways. Our teachers can be friends...our teachers can be enemies...our teachers can be pets...our teachers can be enemies...our teachers can be pets...our teachers can be cars or machinery. The Buddha is the harmony of the universe...the Dharma invites us to live it. If you are a farmer, you will still be a farmer, but probably a better one. If you are a father or a mother, you will still be a father or a mother, but probably a better one. If you are a golfer, a tennis player, or an avid reader of books, you will still be that, but probably do it better. Buddhism invites us to know ourselves and to recognize the harmony that surrounds us. In this life, we are then enabled to live with dignity and nobility. We each can be and have been less...we each can be and have been more. Buddhism shows us that there is more...much more beyond ourselves.
At the subconscious level, we each recognize the truth and the value of the Temple and the Teachings. People are humbled and bow naturally when they enter the realm of the Dharma. The difficult and undaunting task of the Dharma School teacher is to bring that subconscious recognition and respect to the conscious level. We work to let the children get to where they are comfortable at the Temple, and with themselves. As they learn the values and the strengths offered by the Temple, they become the strength of the Temple. In this cycle the Temple grows...depth is more important than numbers. Please support the Dharma School and encourage our teachers and students.
At the end of the month, we have the Fall Ohigan Family Service. We are fortunate to have Rev. Joren McDonald of the Fowler Buddhist Temple coming to share her perspectives of the Dharma with us. Please come out to welcome her with our famous IOBT hospitality. As we make a point to recognize and attend our major services, we then get to better know our own traditions and teachings. It is all a big cycle. Add to it with your presence.
Everyone counts. Everyone is important. We'll see you there.

After a months rest from teh bulletin news...time just flies. It's hard to get motivated. Did everyone survive the heat wave that we had? It's been nice and comfortable lately, which I can tolerate more easily.
We still had a busy month of July with O-Bon Services held at the end of the month. Thanks to Payette, Fruitland, & Parma ladies doing their Toban duties. We would like to thank Rev. Fujimoto for making the annual cemetery visitations - it was appreciated by all of the deceased families.
Dharma School and Fujinkai had their annual "Happy Bowls" project to do. The weather was more comfortable so everyone enjoyed coming to the Fair. I'm happy to announce that we did our all time best profit this year. Would like to thank all those who helped and also all the donation of vegetables. Amazing how many Japanese cucumbers we used for the Aloha Zuke that everyone enjoys eating.
Meals on Wheels was done August 14-18th. Thanks to Midge Teramura's crew who helped with the delivery of the meals. During our "Happy Bowl" time our Temple's freezer was making weird noises - after checking it out we decided to purchase a new freezer. Yasu Teramura donated $200.00 toward the freezer with the Temple paying the balance. Since he won a couple of O-bon Festival raffle prizes - he wanted to do something for all of us to use. Thanks Yasu for your generosity! The freezer was put to immediate use. We just so happen to have lots of leftover rice from the Happy Bowl time, so we put it in the freezer. We are now enjoying the rice on Wednesday Activity Day.
Reminder: Fujinkai meeting will be held on September 10th after services.
<Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who helped with the Happy Bowl booth. Thanks to all the ladies and men who chopped vegetables, who picked up and delivered food, decorated, cooked, sold, served, scheduled, cleaned and for all who bought our happy bowls...whew! We had a super year and we couldn't have done it without each and every one of you!! Thanks again.
The Dharma School trip to Salt Lake was a great one. We visited the Utah Olympic Park where the 2001 winter Olympics was held. We saw the giant ski jumps, the luge, and bobsled runs. The kids rode the Alpine slide & zipline and some even when on the bobsled run (80 MPH in 1 min). We saw future Olympians demoa free style aerial show, it was all very exciting. We attended the Salt Lake Buddhist Temple's Obon and their Obon service. We went to the Living Planet Aquarium where the kids loved touching the sting rays and seeing all of the exotic fish. It was yet another fun, family and friends trip, all thanks to the Happy Bowl booth.
Dharma School will resume on September 10th at 10:30 a.m. Hope to see you all there. The teachers will serve lunch to the whole congregation, so everyone please stay for lunch.
Laurel Saito and Brady Kameshige will soon be leaving for college. Both will be attending Seattle University. On behalf of the Dharma School, we would like to wish them well and the best of luck. Please come see us when you are home, we will miss you.
