I hope October and the seasonal change finds everyone in good spirits. The Temple schedule is at full speed. The Choir, the Taiko Group, and the Adult Study Class are all off and running to compliment our Dharma School and Adult Sunday Services. The new Meditation Sessions for Shin Buddhist Seiza on both Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings have both been well received with enthusiastic participation.
The month of October brings the Kakimochi, the Fujinkai Conference, the Bazaar, the Halloween Service, and the Eitaikyo Perpetual Memorial Service. Members of the Fujinkai are taking a bus to the National Fujinkai Conference in Fresno, with an over-night stop at the spiritual retreat center called RENO. They say this might be their last trip, but they say that every year. Everyone is looking forward to the trip. I don't recall exactly when the Halloween Service became a Boo-ddhist Tradition, but no doubt we all have a firm appreciation for the welcoming openness of our Temple, and of the non-discriminating nature of the Buddhist Teachings.
The Eitaikyo Perpetual Memorial Service is generally a recognition of the efforts of pioneering ministers and lay members. It is through their unwavering vision of the value of these Buddhist Teachings, and of the necessity of this Buddhist Temple that we each have received benefit. The core of the Buddhist Teachings have been the heart of the home. The flow of family through generations is identically the flow of compassion through time. In reflection of times past, it is easy to recognize and appreciate the benefits received by our communities...by our families...by each of us individually. That same flow of compassion is our life current, as it moves day to day. Their efforts to share and appreciate these Buddhist Teachings become our efforts to share and appreciate these Buddhist Teachings. Through our own efforts day to day, we each make the statement that they were right or that they were wrong.

Temple News by Ann NagakiI can't believe where the summer has gone...all of a sudden we find ourselves putting another layer of clothing on. It is officially fall according to the calendar...also, it is Ohigan time, which will be observed on September 25th with Kurt Rye, a student from the IBS, as our guest speaker.
Bazaar, Bazaar is buzzing around with meetings with Sandy Belknap and Patty Aarestad as Co-Chairpersons. Everything seems to be under control - we hope everyone will do his or her part in helping. Please read the Bazaar schedule. We are asking each family donate $10 for chicken that Matsy's will prepare for the Bazaar. Please give your donation to Ruth Harada or Mae Nakano. Donations are most welcome such as nori, kampyo, shiitaki, sugar, rice, shoyu, any kind of needlework and Bingo donations for prizes and auction. All of the proceeds will go towards the Temple's budget, which will be greatly appreciated. We even had an anonymous donator of several dozens of foil pie plates that were left outside at the back entrance; we appreciate it very much, it may have been a hint that we should donate pies for the Bazaar. Pick up a few if needed.
Activity Day is still going on Wednesday's. Those who have been coming to play cards have been spoiled for lunch. It all started by having leftoever rice balls from Obon time, which had been frozen, so it was decided to use the rice for Wednesday's. Mae Nakano, Joan Suyematsu and Ruth Harada had been making lunch for those who happen to be there. Others had been bringing garden veggies and tsukemono for everyone to enjoy. Thanks ladies!
It's around the corner for the National BWA Conference on October 7-9th in Fresno, CA. We have 14 members, 2 spouses and Rev. Fujimoto attending the conference. We decided to charter a bus for our transportation with an overnight stay in Reno, NV going, but on the way home we will head straight home. Ugh! Like to thank the Fujinkai for sponsoring the trip and conference registration. Enjoy!!
Dharma School had resumed with a luncheon sponsored by the Dharma schoolteachers and advisors on September 11th. It is so nice to see and hear the pitter patter of children.
Eitaikyo Services will be held on October 30th with Vale, Nyssa and Adrian as tobans. Rev. Joshin Fujimoto will conduct the services.
Dharma School News by Mary Ann ShimojimaThe first day back to Dharma School was attending very well. The teachers put out a great lunch with hot dogs, potatoe salad, finger jello, cookies, chips and drinks. Then Jeanne Ozawa made a big eggplant casserole, her fried rice, and cake. Thanks Jeanne. Then Joan Suyematsu donated a delicious watermelon from her garden, thanks Joan. Thanks to all the teachers and advisor for making the good food, we had a delicious luncheon.
September 25th is Ohigan and we will have Kurt Rye as our guest speaker. He will spend some time with the Dharma School children before the combined/family service.
October is a busy month. We will have kakimochi making on October 2nd, bazaar on the 16th, and the Halloween party on the 28th. No Dharma school on the 30th!
