Reverend Tada Retirement
Reverend Kakuyei Tada and Bishop Hakubun Watanabe were both present at the monthly board meeting which was held on Tuesday, September 23, 2003. At this meeting, Reverend Tada's retirement was announced. This retirement will occur in November 2003.
More details will follow in the next bulletin regarding this news. Meanwhile, lets all express our appreciation to Reverend Tada for his years of service to our Temple. Likewise, we should recognize Mrs. Tada for all she has done since their arrival in 1997.
Reverend and Mrs. Tada, THANK YOU!
Temple News by Ann NagakiA person can't complain about the weather - it has been absolutely beautiful - just right for my body! Typical fall weather - change of the seasons, all the tree leaves are beginning to turn into fall colors.
When the Fall season comes, it is a reminder that it is time for our Temple Bazaar. We already have had a couple of meetings under the direction of Co-Chairpersons Les Ito and Steve Nakamura. There have been some chairpersons who have resigned, and it has been very hard to find people to replace them. Bazaar profits go to the Temple Operating Funds, which is always needed for operating and emergency needs. Members and friends may donate items for Bingo and Auction prizes, kitchen needs like rice, shoyu, sugars, coffee, tee, etc. Kakimochi making will be held on October 5th, starting at 7:00 a.m. We need everyone's help, young and old, and if you have a friend or relative, we could use them for this project. Lunch will be served. Bring your pizza cutters, your smiley faces, and a few good jokes to share. Also, bring a stool if you like to sit higher, we have a very limited number of stools, and they are already spoken for by the machine operators. Also, Mae Nakano and Ruth Harada are collecting $10.00 from each family to defray the cost of the chicken, which will be cooked by Matsy's.
Thanks to the Fujinkai board members for helping to make some Bento Boxes for the delegates who came from the NW Dharma School Workshop. Reverend Joren McDonald from Florin, California was the guest speaker. She also spoke for the Fall Ohigan services - she gave a wonderful message for the young and old.
Nursing home visitation was done on September 18th with Sue and George Uyeki, and Reverend and Mrs. Tada. Thank you for taking time out for the "shut ins".
Eitaikyo services will be held October 26th with Reverend G. Gibbs, Oregon Buddhist Temple, as the guest speaker. A welcome dinner will be held on October 25th at Far East - Sanami Nakano will be taking reservations.
The next Fujinkai meeting will be held on November 2nd at 1:00 p.m.
Dharma School News by Mary Ann ShimojimaSeptember 7th was the first day back to Dharma School. Thanks to all of the teachers, we had a delicious lunch for everyone. Also, a thanks to Ann Nagaki who brought her home grown watermelon and aloha zuke.
The IOBT Dharma school hosted the Northwest Dharma School Teachers League workshop on September 20th. We were very fortunate to have Reverend Joren MacDonald as our guest speaker. She spoke on "Emptiness" and it was a most enjoyable workshop. She also spoke Sunday morning to the Dharma School children. We would like to thank the Fujinkai ladies: Joan Suyematsu, Mae Nakano, Ann Nagaki, Setsuko Morishige, Martha Mizuta, Kikue Hondo and Ruth Harada for preparing a most generous and delicious bento boxes for our workshop. The Portland teachers had to leave in the late afternoon to head back to Portland, so they were delighted to have the bento for their way home. Again, thank you ladies, we can't thank you enough!
We will have our Halloween party on Friday, October 24th at 6:30 p.m. The children can ask a friend to join in the fun. We will serve dinner, so bring a big appetite and dress in your costumes. Since we will have a short service on the 24th, there won't be any service on October 26th.
October 5th is our kakimochi making day, so come if you can help out on this big project. The bazaar is October 19th, so help out in the booths.
54th Annual Bazaar - October 19, 2003Advanced kakimochi sales are limited to 10 bags per family, for those who help to make kakimochi. Orders and payment must be made on kakimochi making day.
