Welcome to November. Isn't it beautiful! The mornings are cold and the air is apple crisp! If I had any hair, it would be standing straight up! The heavy socks and gloves are out again.
I had the idea to cook my turkey this week, and have my Thanksgiving dinner early this year. Sometimes you want to get a head start. That way, I won't have to worry about the big dinner and I will be ready for all the other things that are sure to arise. The end of the month always gets busy. I can't even put away my foods with a big fat turkey in the way. Maybe I can avoid all the turmoil by getting it done early.
But then, when Thanksgiving really comes around, I might feel foolish when everyone else is enjoying the company of family and friends with a big dinner. By that time, I would only have a 3-week old wing wrapped in aluminum foil.
I guess I'll wait. The work and the trouble and the inconvenience stays the same...it just gets moved. The sharing and the company and the camaraderie is what gives Thanksgiving its meaning. We go through life together and connected. That connection realized is Oneness.
I knew that. I just forgot for a second. I'm OK again, folks. I'll just wait and have Thanksgiving with the rest of us...at the end of the month. Whew!
Before then, we will have the Fujinkai Memorial Service. This will be a Family Service for EVERYONE! November 19, 11:00 a.m. This is a major service, to take the time to reember our past Fujinkai members who had given and shared their time and their lives. Through attending and participating in all of our major services and activities...families become closer...individuals become grounded...and everyone has opportunity to get to know the traditions and the teachings that tie us together through Temple.
The Fujinkai has invited Mrs. Kayoko Fujimoto as Guest Speaker this year. She is an ordained Shin Buddhist priest. She is also an accomplished instructor of Ikebana flower arrangement (Ohara School) and the Tea Ceremony (Urasenke School). She is also the mother of our good-looking resident minister, me. Please join us.

Oh my what a busy month of October that we had. I have been trying to keep up with the Temple activities, but after waiting four months , I decided to purchase a retirement home in Payette, ID. I say retirement because my lawn and snow removal will be taken care of. Fifty-nine years in one place, one can imagine all the Stuff that has been kept and now I'm having the glory of cleaning and sorting the Stuff! Oh, my aching back!
What a relief to get the Temple Bazaar over with. We would like to thank our chairperson, Patty Aarestad, for doing a fine job for the Bazaar. Thanks to everyone who donated and their time to make this Bazaar a success. It's certainly appreciated by the Temple.
I don't know what we would do without our Handy Man Yas! Finally, our refrigeration air condition in the kitchen gave out after many years. Thanks to Yas Teramura who donated his time to look into this project, and to purchase a new item and install it. Now we have a quieter unit which was installed in time for the Bazaar.
Care Center visition was done in Weiser on October 3rd and Ontario and Payette on October 4th with Francis Nishimura and Martha Mizuta accompanying Rev. Fujimoto.
Fujinkai Memorial will be held on November 19th with Rev. Fujimoto's mother, Kayoko, as our guest speaker. Lunch will be provided by the Fujinkai. A welcome dinner is planned on Saturday, November 18th, and will be catered by Matsy's at the Temple. Ask around for time and make reservations with Joan Suyematsu.
Eitaikyo Service was held on October 29th with Rev. Fujimoto giving the sermon for this special service. Toban will be Vale and Nyssa ladies. Thanks for your time ladies. Fujinkai meeting will be held November 5th after the adult services. Take care everyone!
What a busy October!! Kakimochi making and the bazaar was a big success. Thank you to everyone for your help.
Oct 8: Today's theme was rhythm. The Sangha taiko had an introduction to the taiko drum. All the children and teachers took part in the intro to taiko and had a great time.
Oct 22: We had the MAP conduct the service with Sharmon Sadamori leading the sutra chanting and George Gledhill giving the Dharma talk. The theme was family pets.
Oct 29: The theme is temple SAHO (procedure) and Rev. Dennis will show the children how to hit the kansho. It is also our Halloween party after service.
Hey Kids, Nov. 4th is temple clean up. Please take pride in helping to clean our church and meet at 10:00 a.m. to help.
November 19th is a FAMILY service at 11:00 a.m. It is the Fujinkai memorial and Rev. Dennis' mother, Mrs. Kayoko Fujimoto, will be our guest speaker. Hope you will all attend and welcome Mrs. Fujimoto to our temple.
Temple Cleanup is Nov. 4th at 9:00 a.m. Dharma School participation at cleanup starts at 10:00 a.m. Starting this year, cleanup also includes the parsonage building as it is being used for taiko practice and meditation. It is now an extension of the Temple and not just a vacant building.
Thanks to George Yanagawa for beautifying the front yard and to Yas Teramura and David Mizuta for winterizing the sprinkler systems.
