We are happy to announce that Idaho-Oregon is one of the Temples that is being considered for a new minister, Rev. Dennis Fujimoto. Rev. Fujimoto obtained his Tokudo Ordination in 1981 and received his Kyoshi Ordination in 2004. He is a son of the late Rev. Hogen Fujimoto and Madame Suiyo Fujimoto and also a brother to Rev. Ken Fujimoto. He currently resides in San Leandro, California.
Rev. Fujimoto will be coming to Idaho-Oregon for a visit on November 5-7. He will join the Temple during Temple cleanup on November 6. A welcome dinner for Rev. Fujimoto will be held Saturday, November 6, at 6:00 p.m. in the Temple basement. This will be a potluck, however, the Temple will also provide a few other dishes as well.
On Sunday, November 7th, Rev. Fujimoto will conduct our services for us and will deliver the sermon. Please come out and participate as much as possible during Rev. Fujimoto's visitation so that he can have an opportunity to meet as many of our Temple members as possible. While considerations are being made whether or not he will be assigned to Idaho-Oregon, it's important that we give Bishop Ogui and Rev. Fujimoto as much exposure to our Temple, our members and our community as possible. Thanks very much for your support and participation!
Experience MeditationThe Idaho-Oregon Buddhist Temple will sponsor this discussion as a preliminary step to beginning a meditation group. A growing interest in meditation has been developing over the last few decades. The techniques of this practice have been gaining professional interest in many areas of medical application. Recent publication in the main stream Journal of the American Medical Association underscores the seriousness of this interest, and helps to bring attention to meditation as a technique for dealing with the suffering and stress experienced in daily life.
This seminar is open to anyone who has an interest in mediation, and while the main background of the presenters is Buddhist, the practice of meditation is not based on faith and therefore any person should feel welcome. Meditation is more in the order of a mind science based on experience.
Rev. Gregory Gibbs of the Oregon Buddhist Temple, Portland, will present a Jodo Shin perspective. George Gledhill will present the perspective of an American with over thirty years of Tibetan Buddhist study. If you have an interest in meditation and wish to participate in discussion, please join us. There is no charge for this seminar. Contact George Gledhill at 642-2760.
2004 Temple BazaarWe want to thank all of the members and friends that came out to help with this annual event. Without the Nisei members, who spent many days prior to the Bazaar preparing and getting organized, we couldn't have done it all. You all deserve a pat on the back. Kakimochi day was long and tiring from pressing, cutting, frying, baking and packaging. Selling out on most all of the food items was wonderful!! With everyone's hard work and support, we were able to have a successful bazaar. All the comments heard during the bazaar were positive and everyone had a good time. Hope you all have rested up!!!
With gassho and thank-you, Steve Nakamura and Sandy Belknap (co-chairpersons).
Temple News by Ann NagakiOh what a relief after the Bazaar was over with - we can't thank everyone enough for all of your help and donations to make this another successful Bazaar. The entire Bazaar proceeds goes towards the Temple finances. A big Thank You goes to our chairpersons, Steve Nakamura and Sandy Belknap for this event.
Have to mention that during our kakimochi making day, Sherrie Kitamura donated Debbie Ogura's therapy service for an hour to some of our members with a minute massage to relieve some of our tension that we developed during the long hours of handling the dough and cutting.
Have you noticed the new tables that the Temple purchased? Looks nice and clean - now its up to us to keep the tables looking good. At times we forget that coloring, sprah painting, and permanent markers cannot be scrubbed off easily. All I can say is its easy to handle them because of the material that the tables are made of.
Thanks to Sam Takeshita for donating Matsutaki for the Bazaar. Several of the ladies cleaned and prepared them - they were used for the noodle toppings. Umm, Umm!
