We are very happy to announce that Rev. Dennis Fujimoto has safely arrived in Ontario and will be assuming his new responsibilities as teh resident minister for the Idaho-Oregon Buddhist Temple on March 1, 2005.
He comes to us from San Leandro, California, and is the son of Maame Suiyo Fujimoto and the late Reverend Hogen Fujimoto. He is also brother to BCA minister Reverend Ken Fujimoto of the Buddhist Church of Lodi.
Rev. Fujimoto received his B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1974 and his M.A. from the Institute of Buddhist Studies, Berkeley, in 1980. He received his Tokudo Ordination in San Francisco in 1981 and his Kyoshi Ordination in Kyoto, Japan, in 2004.
He is the owner of Wood and Stone, established in 1980 to design and create sculptural art pieces, primarily of cast stone or metal.
For your convenience, Rev. Fujimoto's home phone number will be 889-6831, just as our previous ministers' home hone has been.
Please help us welcome Rev. Fujimoto at his first service on March 6, 2005.
February is a short month, but it seems like its getting shorter each year, especially when you have to get the news for the bulletin out on time.
I'm not sure what the true countwas of our Temple members that went to Tacoma for the NW Buddhist Convention on the chartered bus. Even though I didn't go, I think I have a sense of smell from all the Bento's that were brought on the bus. I have a vision of seeing teriyaki chicken, rice balls, sushi, nishime, cookies, snacks, and of course tsukemono, too. What a good time to travel with one big church family of friends. I missed my card players on the bus, too. We'll be hearing how much fun they had on the bus and at the Convention, meeting their relatives and their Buddhist Friends when they come back.
Our Activity Day on Wednesday's has had some wonderful food demonstrations this past month. Diane Yamasaki and Kayako Ogawa had a food demonstration together. Diane made Matsutake Gohan, which was really good and Kayako mode Koroke, which was excellent. She showed how to make them in various sizes by using small or larger rice forms. To make it more interesting, Diane had crocheted 8 disrags, which were given as a door prize every 15 minutes. Thanks Diane! Ruth Harada made a delicious Chicken Asparagus Casserole and Martha made Crab Bisque Soup, which was very tasty and very easy to make. Thanks everyone for time to share!
Have you noticed another addition to the kitchen and hall entrance? Fujinkai had the cabinet maker make a cabinet with shelves, which allows a place for us ladies to park purses when working at the church on big events. It is still a goodpolicy not to bring your valuables in, since we wont be able to put them under lock and key. Thanks Fujinkai for your generosity!
We would like to thank the temple from the veteran families for teh use of the basement for a potluck dinner for the Hanashi Group from the Go For Broke Foundation. The group of four men came to interview about ten Japanese Veterans, documenting starting from childhood, growing up, education, evacuation, military draft, training, oversees fighting, after the war, and back home to their family. They were taped for about 2 hours each - all of these tapes will be put in the Go For Broke Foundation Archive's for future use.
The Fujinkai Meeting will be held after the Adult Services - this will be our first meeting with Rev. Dennis Fujimoto in attendance. Let's welcome him for this meeting with us!
