December 2004 Bulletin

Temple News by Ann Nagaki

Because of our travels, at times the Temple News is written earlier than usual. Last month, we missed mentioning one of our dear former Temple members, Thuan Merritt, who now lives in Alexandria, Virginia, came to visit friends and relatives in the Nampa area. We heard that she was going to visit our Temple, so we thought it was our chance to listen to her talk and give a Time to Share in place of a sermon. She had some experience to talk about her trip coming to the Boise area - her airline ticket was supposedly scheduled to go to Kansas City, KS, to visit her grandchild, but only to find out she arrived in Kansas City, MO. Becauase of the mix up, she ended up not able to see her son's family. We do want to thank her for her talk and as she puts it, it was like coming home. After the service, we had a no host luncheon at Sizzler's for Thuan and her friend. Also, thanks for the goodies and al the 2005 yearly pocket planner books for our members to enjoy.

Something new for our Temple - a "Meditation Discussion Group" under the guidance of George Gledhill and Rev. Gregory Gibbs of the Oregon Buddhist Temple, will be held on November 20th. Thanks to George, who has planned for this discussion for a year. We really appreciate his time and effort to get it started, and to Rev. Gibbs, who is assisting as a supervising minister.

We would like to thank Greg Matsuura, member of the Orange County Buddhist Temple, who was passing by in the Northwest area, and with the help of Rev. Marvin Harada, had notified our Dharma Taiko group. They had several hours of practice sessions with Greg. Mr. Matsuura makes taiko drums and is also a taiko teacher. A month later, to our surprise, Greg donated a taiko drum for our group to use - it's beautiful looking. Thanks Greg! Rev. Dennis Fujimoto is a BCA minister who came to visit our Temple and conducted a sermon. A welcome potluck dinner was held with Matsy's doing part of the catering - what a feast it was, nobody went home hungry!

The Fujinkai Memorial Services will be held on November 28th with Reverend Marvin Harada from the Orange County Buddhist Temple. Another treat for our members to listen to a message from one of our home town boys, who has become a popular minister in the BCA. A welcome potluck/catered dinner is being planned at the church at 6:00 p.m. A charge of $5.00 will be asked.

It was decided to help with the "Help Them to Hope" with the food bank. We're asking each family to help. A box is set up at the Temple. Thanks!

December 5th will be our last 2004 meeting at 1:00 p.m. It's nomination time for presidents or president, and we need your help.
